As well as adults, we support children and young people in recovering from the effects of crime

Here at NSVC we want to highlight an important part of our service; alongside supporting adults, we also support children and young people aged 4-18, who have been victims of, or witnesses to, crime. We work in conjunction with schools, families, social services and other agencies to provide comprehensive support for children and young people. Our specially trained Case Managers assess complex needs on a case-by-case basis and we also signpost to other specialist support and services where available.

Our one-to-one support is person centered, and led by the young person’s needs, including consideration of any learning disabilities, interpretation needs, or other necessary adjustments, such as being accompanied by a family member or guardian, that can help to make our support as comfortable for each individual as we can.

Our support is also flexible, to fit around young people’s lives and situation, which can include support online, or by telephone or email; our focus is on communicating with children and young people in the best way to suit them. This can include the use of art, games and other activities to stimulate and support a young person’s recovery and engagement.

Alongside our one-to-one support, there are also a range of online resources for children, as well as family members of victims, provided by Victim Support. These resources can be accessed at any time, and are specifically designed around young victims; with activities and guides on a number of topics, such as an interactive court room and information on different types of crime.
